Connecting Florida Classrooms to Agriculture

Florida Agriculture in the Classroom, Inc. (FAITC) is a non-profit organization that provides educational resources, grants and other programs to help Pre-K through 12th grade educators incorporate agricultural concepts into their core subject area classes. The goal of FAITC is to expand youth awareness and understanding of Florida agriculture and natural resources by integrating agricultural concepts into core educational disciplines and supporting programs.

Florida Agriculture in the Classroom is funded by sales of the specialty agricultural license plate known as the Ag Tag. Your Ag Tag purchase allows Florida Agriculture in the Classroom to:

  • Hold Florida’s Agriculture Literacy Day Program, in which thousands of industry volunteers read to tens of thousands of students every year.

  • Award more than $1,000,000 in grant funding since the program’s inception.

  • Hosts at least five educational workshops a year.

  • Creates and distributes FREE agriculture themed educational resources.

  • Send teachers to the National AITC Conference.

*Florida Agriculture in the Classroom does not pay more than 12% toward indirect costs.

Our Mission

Our Vision

To ensure every student in PreK-12 education is aware of and appreciates agriculture and natural resources in Florida.

Becky Sponholtz, Executive Director, grew up in Palm Beach County, home of the Everglades Agricultural Area, where she developed an early appreciation for the impact of agriculture on her community. Her passion for the industry was cemented at Auburn University, where she majored in Animal Science and further deepened her knowledge and commitment to the field. Years later, her love for education began to take root when she stepped in as a substitute teacher for the agriculture program in Fort Pierce, an experience that sparked a new chapter dedicated to inspiring the next generation in agriculture.

Becky joined Florida Agriculture in the Classroom as Education Program Manager in June 2013 and was named Executive Director in February 2017. Prior to her work with FAITC, she served as an Agriscience Instructor and FFA Advisor for seven years at Keystone Heights High School and for two years at Fort Pierce Westwood High School, where she dedicated herself to agricultural education and student leadership development.

She earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Animal Science and a Master of Agriculture from Auburn University. Becky is married to Corbin Sponholtz, and together they have two children, a son, Landon, and a daughter, Chandlee.
